“Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not.” ~ Picasso
It’s 2019 and a girl is playing a mandolin in the middle of a paint splattered studio. Under the watchful eye of PIcIasso himself an artist is creating a painting in the style of his and Braque’s early 20th century analytical cubism. Back and forth the artist walks, keenly observing the girl from different levels and angles as he visually deconstructs her. The day ends and the final sitting concludes; the artist’s muse has metamorphosed into a 21st century portrait animated with modern iconography and infused with symbolism.
EthGirl is my inaugural NFT artwork as I venture into the SuperRare world, so I’m really pleased to enter with a collaboration piece with the consummate visionary @money_alotta.
Inspired by Picasso’s ‘Girl with Mandolin’ (1910) EthGirl began as one of my recent oil paintings and has now been transformed into something altogether dynamic and unique. Picasso was a creative genius and is undeniably one of the 20th century's greatest innovators. He was a risk taker with an adept ability to see the world in entirely original and captivating ways. Picasso epitomized this new, digital art movement; fast paced, provocative and unapologetic and EthGirl aims to capture and exemplify this great artist’s avant-garde attitude towards art and life. Watch this space. This is just the beginning.
About Trevor Jones
Over the last few years the themes informing my art and practice have become more and more intertwined with my interest in tech and modern communication. Every artwork tells a story and AR, near field communication tags, video, social media integration and other digital elements enable me to present my paintings in innovative and captivating ways and to even entirely change the way one experiences them.
In June of 2017 I purchased some bitcoin and soon after I fell down the proverbial rabbit hole. Since then, my paintings have focused mostly on cryptocurrency themes, ideas and people.
